The Government's attempts to revive the ailing housing market by
raising the stamp duty threshold have done little to rekindle
interest, a housing expert says.
It is more than a month since the Chancellor announced buyers
would not pay stamp duty on properties worth up to pounds175,000.
At the time, the move was hailed as the first step in a concerted
Government effort to get the housing market moving. But the onset on
the wider economic crisis has created even greater pressures on the
market, says Richard Copus, regional spokesman for the National
Association of Estate Agents.
