Article: Wind causes havoc, ignites freeway fires and knocks down power lines

The first of the Devil Winds whipping through the region Monday kicked up a pair of fast-moving urban fires that singed San Bernardino, including one that destroyed several homes and businesses and shut down the 215 Freeway for hours.

In conditions similar to the catastrophic Old Fire of 2003, Santa Ana winds steadily ripped through the county at 29 mph with occasional gusts up to 61 mph. A red-flag warning of "critical fire- weather conditions" remains in effect until 6 tonight.
