A wildlife rescue centre in North Somerset has been looking after a washed-up seal pup for the past two weeks.

The four-month-old grey pup was found lying on Brean Down, North Somerset, by a passer by.

The helpless seal was exhausted and unable to crawl back to the sea.

Volunteer workers from Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre took him to recover at the sanctuary, based in Highbridge, Somerset.

Sandy is recuperating in a water tank with access to a dry resting space.

Volunteers at the shelter said he is getting stronger, eating eight mackerels each day.

Debbie O'Keefe, a Secret World rescue worker, said: "He was quite weak when he came in but now he's looking good.
