A city cemetery chapel is undergoing a pounds60,000
refurbishment.
The upgrade to the larger of the two chapels in Higher Cemetery,
Heavitree, is part of a two-year rolling programme of improvements
to the city's three cemeteries - the others are at Exwick and
Topsham.
Exwick is soon to have a new garden of remembrance, similar to
the site which opened in Higher Cemetery in June.
The renovation of the chapel has been a major undertaking and
includes:
repointing and replacing brickwork
replacing windows and repairs to window mullions
repairs to the bell tower
internal decoration including a new carpet
new heating system and rewiring
cleaning the facade.
