Article: Tri-City managers accentuate positives at luncheon meeting

FREMONT -- The city managers of Fremont, Newark and Union City acknowledged that times are tough, but they didn't dwell on their budget problems at Thursday's Tri-City Managers Luncheon.

Union City's city manager, Larry Cheeves, dished out the biggest serving of gloom, saying that his city anticipated a 5 percent drop in sales tax revenue and less income from city fees as development slows down.

After the event, Fremont officials said that it was too early to project their city's sales tax revenue.

In brighter news, Cheeves said that 42 percent of Union City residents who have responded to a refund offer for Union City's illegal 911 tax have opted to let the city keep the money.
