NATIONAL DEBT

Numbers should be highly publicized

I know this is an age of shrinking size and content for newspapers. However, it would be a great service to readers to inform them as to the mounting public debt. The national debt, as of the day I write this letter, is $10,310,495,948,806.65. Each citizen's share is $33,814.57, based upon an estimated population of 304,912,839 (see www.brillig.com/debt_clock).

The newspaper should post this number on a daily basis at the top of the front page or at least at the top of the business section. The national debt has increased $3.4 billion per day since Sept. 28, 2007. Readers and voters should be aware of this information with Nov. 4 rapidly ...
