Nancy Crampton is a lot like her photographs: classic.

She loves her old 35 mm Leica M3, which they stopped making in 1964. Last spring, Publishers Weekly, for which she shoots the National Book Awards and National Book Critics Circle Awards, gave her an ultimatum, and she finally broke down and bought a little Canon G9 digital camera.

She's "on the verge," she says, of getting a scanner and an up- to-date computer.

From her home in New York's Greenwich Village, Crampton took some time to talk about her portraits of writers, some of which will be featured in an exhibit that opens Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Franklin & Marshall College's Philadelphia Alumni Writers House.
