The 43-year-old splashed out pounds3 million on the run-down gothic mansion three years ago and set about restoring it to its former glory.

But after spending millions on renovations, the property is still shrouded in a maze of scaffolding thought to have cost pounds1m to keep in place.

Set in 124 acres of Gloucestershire countryside, the building is arguably more of an eyesore than when he bought it.

Hirst expects the renovation project to take 10 years and it is estimated the bill could run to pounds10m.
