Wind-assisted power for fishing boats is a goal worth chasing say
many Westcountry big boat owners, but one of Norway's largest purse
seine vessels, Libas, may be the first to try computer-operated
sails.
Driven by 8,000hp high power engines, Libas may save pounds74
per hour when sails are involved, a pilot project completed in
September revealed.
Lars Olav Lie, chief executive of her owners LieGruppen, said:
"We have every confidence in the project and are certain that Libas
will soon be fitted out with sails to operate interactively with
engine power."
