Czech Republic to negotiate with Ireland on Lisbon treaty ratification during EU presidency: PM

PRAGUE, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Czech Republic which will preside the EU in the first half of 2009 will have to negotiate with Ireland about a change in its stand after a referendum rejected the Lisbon Treaty, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek told his visiting German counterpart Angela Merkel on Monday.

Topolanek assured Merkel that the Czech Republic is not artificially hindering the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, the Czech news agency CTK said.

Merkel stressed the need of cooperation, for instance, in solving the current financial crisis.
