On July 2 this year, a fire alarm signal was transmitted to a private monitoring company from the resort's Grand Pier at 1.35am, but a call was not received by Avon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service until 6.45am.

A report into the cause of the fire was released yesterday and firefighters say they may have saved the structure if those vital five hours had not been lost.
