CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY: Surgical patients at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport will soon have access to the latest technology - a harmonic scalpel - thanks to the Provident Community Foundation.

The foundation, the charitable arm of the Provident Bank based in Amesbury, has donated $12,000 to the hospital to purchase the scalpel, a comprehensive ultrasound system used in a range of endoscopic and open surgical procedures. The scalpel cuts and seals tissue simultaneously.
