Article: Gravel pit foe cites similar effort in '07

BLOOMINGTON - The president of the Southwest Bloomington Residents Association says that if a proposed gravel pit was within the city limits instead of in the county, it likely would not happen.

Susan Schafer said that when the Bloomington Planning Commission denied a request by Bud Hall to rezone land off Six Points Road to make way for a gravel pit in 2007, members said the city should "never put manufacturing in residential areas."

That proposed gravel pit would have been on 44 acres near a residential area, she said.

"Here we are today about another gravel pit in the area," Schafer said. "I feel a sense of dj vu."
