BLOOMINGTON - Randy Klante, a resident of Fox Creek subdivision, showed the McLean County Zoning Board a picture of the Fox Creek Elementary School Halloween parade during a hearing Wednesday.

He said it was one of several events the school holds outside that would be affected if Carri Scharf Materials is allowed a special-use permit for a nearby gravel pit.

Klante, who said he grew up near a gravel pit, said such operations "shouldn't be allowed to operate near a school or residential area.

"I've seen dust and heard noise from a gravel pit operation," he said. "Dust and exhaust have a negative impact on health. You don't need to be a professional to know that."
