GROW IN THE RED - The budget of Avon's GROW Associates Inc., a
nonprofit that provides daily services for 126 adults with
developmental disabilities, has been cut $100,000 in the governor's
recent budget cuts. The agency, founded in 1977, will try to cover
the deficit by reducing the number of trips it makes transporting
clients between their homes and jobs, said Jim Zweber, executive
director. GROW is funded almost entirely through contracts with the
state Department of Mental Retardation and was already $52,000 in
the red before this latest cut.
