THE GOVERNMENT are refusing to commit public money to plug a pounds 79 million gap in Team GB's budget for the London 2012 Games, leaving 20 sports in danger of being culled from the funding programme altogether.

UK Sport, the agency who distribute money to elite Olympic and Paralympic sports, are preparing to make drastic cutbacks to their original 2012 budget to make up for the shortfall, which has been caused by failure to attract private investment for the British team.
