Bankrupt firm ends Nats deal
Mattress Discounters Corp., of Upper Marlboro, a 140-store
bedding retailer, is no longer a sponsor of the Washington Nationals
Baseball Club LLC. The sponsorship agreement was ended this week
with the bankruptcy court's permission. The agreement provided
promotional opportunities at the Nationals' ballpark. The company is
closing 35 stores on top of 15 that were shut just before
bankruptcy. It listed assets of $16.9 million against $31 million in
liabilities, including $16.6 million in secured claims. The Chapter
11 filing on Sept. 10 came less than six years after emerging from a
prior bankruptcy reorganization.
