Sesh Commuri wants to see better roads and fewer potholes.
Through his research at the University of Oklahoma and a
partnership with Volvo, Commuri, an electrical and computer
engineering professor, is tweaking a prototype of a device to test
road compaction to detect weaknesses in a surface as it is laid.
He has come up with a device called the Intelligent Asphalt
Compaction Analyzer.
So far the project has collected about $800,000 in grants and a
licensing agreement with Volvo.
After tests are completed in the next year Volvo is planning to
take the project in-house and create its own prototype by 2010.
