After sitting silently in the cold darkness of opening day for an
hour, you are finally being rewarded with the first signs of
daylight. It is not yet light, but rather, a little less dark.
Several chickadees have also forecast dawn's arrival with their
chattering and flittering about 15 yards to your left. Your yearlong
wait is nearly at an end, as you allow the memory of last year's
eight-point to scroll slowly across your mind.
No one along the mountain bagged the heavy-beamed buck last year,
or in archery season this year, as far as you know. And while you
have not seen it, reports indicate a similar buck in the area again
this year.
