Upland farmers will benefit from more than pounds2 million in
funding after a regional task force came together to respond to the
economic plight of hill farmers in the region.
The South West Uplands Task Force first came together at the
beginning of this year to address the problems faced by hill farmers
on Exmoor, Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor.
This followed an emergency meeting organised by Mel Hall, South
West Director of the National Farmers' Union in December 2007.
The meeting had been called in response to serious concerns about
the viability of traditional approaches to livestock farming in the
Westcountry uplands, caused by a decline in public funding,
increasing costs of fuel, fodder ...
