Fireworks may look pretty and bonfires inviting but there's a
darker side to Guy Fawkes Night.
Health bosses, firefighters and animal campaigners are warning
people to take care when it comes to fireworks, bonfires and
sparklers which have the potential to kill.
Dr Eunan Tiernan, from the specialist burns unit at Odstock,
near Salisbury, is warning people not to mess with fireworks, having
seen some horrific injuries during his seven years as a consultant
plastic surgeon.
He said that every year between 10 and 30 people were admitted to
the hospital with firework-related burns. He said: "This time of
year gets busy because of bonfires and fireworks.
