The landlady of a country pub is calling for a change in the law after she was hit by a bizarre village spat which could threaten the pub's future.

Sue Robson, the landlady of The Saladin pub in Little Somerford, Wiltshire, will, one the order of planners, today have to take down her large sign advertising the pub which is popular for its food and drink.

She had the backing of locals and North Wiltshire MP James Gray, but one villager objected to the sign, which is a quarter of a mile away on the main road near the village.

That objector was her neighbour, car mechanic Richard Boulton.
