A Lincolnshire pensioner accused of nodding off at the wheel and
killing his wife in a Lincolnshire road smash has told a jury he
didn't fall asleep and would have pulled over if he felt tired.
Prosecutors allege Brian Mickleburgh slammed into a tree, killing
his wife Tracy and injuring the long-lost son she had been reunited
with only days earlier, after just one 90-minute 'nap' in the
previous 32 hours.
But the 66-year-old, giving evidence in his own defence at
Leicester Crown Court, said he was "awake and alert" before the
crash on the A1 near Stamford.
