Landowners say that a new cross-industry group set up to look at
ways of eradicating TB in cattle offers a rare ray of hope to South
West farmers.
The Country Land and Business Association, the CLA, says that the
group, which was announced by Defra this week, has a far better
chance of getting to grips with the menace of bovine TB than any of
its predecessors.
Farming and livestock organisations have been brought together in
the group after Defra was warned it could face intervention by the
European Commission unless it started working on an eradication plan
for the disease.
The country is currently in the grip of its worst TB epidemic,
which is likely to see at least 30,000 cattle ...
