The 2008 Poppy Appeal this autumn is set against the backdrop of
a nation facing tough economic times ahead.
By the Chancellor of the Exchequer's own estimation, these are
the toughest times we have seen since the end of World War II, and
it is at times like these that the most vulnerable in our society
suffer.
The serving and ex-service community is one of those groups and
the nation once again looks to the Royal British Legion to safeguard
its welfare and interests.
Remembrance Day - also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or
Veterans' Day - is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of
the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically
since World War I.
