Residents across the East Riding will be sent special calculators to help them work out how much alcohol they are drinking.

East Riding Council, in conjunction with NHS East Riding - the county's primary care trust - is aiming to send out the wheel calculators to all households in the region.

It comes after a council review panel looking into the misuse of alcohol by adults urged a more holistic approach to the problem and called for more funding to support those with problems.

Director of Public Health for the East Riding Dr Tim Allison backed the idea.

He said: "The strength of alcoholic drinks has risen in recent years and a large glass of wine can now be three units.
