TRIBUTES have been paid to a veteran weather forecaster from the
North-East who died this week.
Jack Scott, who was raised in a County Durham pit village, has
been described by colleagues as a pioneer.
The 85-year-old former BBC weatherman died on Tuesday from
cancer. His family said he was helped a great deal by Macmillan
Cancer Support.
Mr Scott worked for the BBC from 1969 to 1983, and introduced the
magnetic symbols to viewers in 1975. He also helped to lay the
foundations of the computerised system of forecasting used today, a
BBC spokesman said.
