This time last year, Roanoke Express center Mike Peron could see
the end of his hockey career.
Fresh out of college at Lake Superior State, Peron was bounced
out of three professional hockey camps before landing in Roanoke. He
had a tryout with San Antonio of the International Hockey League,
then was cut by Charlotte and Jacksonville of the East Coast Hockey
League.
"I talked to [then-Express coach Frank Anzalone] and said 'If I'm
not going to get the opportunity to play in Roanoke then I'll just
hang up my skates, finish the two classes I need in college and look
for a job," Peron recalled.
But Anzalone gave Peron an opportunity to play, and Peron made
