PAUL McLaughlin ensures that my slip of the tongue is corrected.
"It is Scotland Food and Drink, not Scottish Food and Drink," he
says patiently. Of course the distinction is important, and not just
in the interests of accuracy over the proper noun versus the
adjective.
For Scotland Food and Drink is the new organisation designed to
promote the interests of the Scottish food industry. Scottish Food
and Drink, on the other hand, was its predecessor - the group
disbanded by Scottish Enterprise when the SNP brought in its big
broom and started whacking the dust out of Scotland's enterprise
support agency.
Maybe it could be argued that those responsible for naming
quangos could be a little ...
