The decisions made by union bus and T drivers weigh heavily on
how people like Keturah Hawkins get to and from their jobs.
If a bitter labor dispute with the Port Authority halts bus
service, "I'd have to walk," said the Brighton Heights resident who
works Downtown. "It's going to be hard on a lot of people."
The possibility of a Dec. 1 shutdown of the bus and T system by
the Port Authority has been delayed temporarily as union leaders are
in Washington to confer with labor representatives about getting
contract talks back on track, officials said Saturday.
Pat McMahon, the president and business agent of the Amalgamated
Transit Union Local 85, said yesterday he is in meetings in
