Chelsey Nill scored 35 points as Yakima Valley exploded past Mount Hood 109-72 in the first round of the High Hopes Crossover Tournament on Friday night in Sherar Gym.

The Yaks' one-sided triumph in their season-opener advances them to a 5 p.m. semifinal today against Lower Columbia. Columbia Basin and Umpqua meet in the early semi at 3.

Nill, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Seattle Prep, made 11 of 17 field goals, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, en route to her career- high total. Kaitlin McBride had 17 points and Nicole DeRosier 11 for YVCC.

McBride was 7 for 8 from the floor and played only 18 minutes.
