Here are the biggest "cold case review" successes for Avon and
Somerset police since the dedicated team was set up in 2003:
October 2004 - Nigel Palmer-Batt, formerly of Hanham, Bristol,
was sentenced to eight years in prison at the age of 49 for the rape
of a 21-year-old woman in 1979.
October 2004 - Jason Reed, of Brislington, Bristol, was jailed
for five years, aged 33, for the rape of a prostitute in 1992.
Evidence left at the scene was resubmitted, resulting in a full DNA
profile being obtained.
March 2005 - Matthew Bailey, formerly of Brislington, Bristol,
was jailed for life, aged 37. He was already serving nine years in
prison for two indecent assaults when the team revisited two ...
