Consumers must be protected from the threat of food contamination
through an improved labelling system, West MEP Neil Parish has
warned
He wants clear country-of-origin ingredients labelling to be
applied to all processed foods in the wake of the scare of dioxin-
contaminated Irish pork.
As much as 4,000 tons of potentially poisoned meat has been sold
into the UK, but the majority of it has been sold anonymously as
part of ready meals, pies, sausages and other processed products.
Now Mr Parish has called for an end to the flag of convenience
labelling loophole, which allows meat products to be sold as
"British" once they have undergone their final, often rudimentary,
