Article: Divers fight saudi ex-employer in court over exposure to toxic chemicals

Three commercial divers exposed to toxic chemicals while working in Saudi Arabia are battling for compensation at London's High Court - and to have their cases heard under Shari'ah law.

But lawyers for the firm which employed them are arguing that, under Saudi law, the men have brought their case outside time limits.

Michael Hopley, of Warmingham Road, Crewe, was working for Khalifa A Algosaibi Diving And Marine Services (KADMS) at the time of the incident.

He is bidding for compensation with Stephen Harley, aged 41, of Devon, and Andrew Iles, aged 41, of Huddersfield.

Their barrister, Robert Weir, said they were diving in an oil field off Saudi Arabia on May 7, 2003, and worked in water ...
