Article: Look-out for car park gang is locked up

A teenager has been locked upfor eight months for his role in a bungled attempt to steal money from a parking meter.

Romanian Dumitru Mares was one of three would-be thieves who targeted the ticket machine at Charlotte Street car park.

But police witnessed the offence and 19-year-old Mares, who is of no fixed abode, and had been acting as look-out, was found hiding up a tree by a sniffer dog.

His accomplices escaped and the defendant later admitted one charge of attempted theft.

He was sentenced to eight months' detention in a young offenders' institute.

Richard Posner, prosecuting at Bristol Crown Court, said police were informed of an attack on the machine at 4.50am on October 29 ...
