Article: Peyton remembered as 'Renaissance man': ; Civic leader who served city in numerous capacities dies at 81

Angus E. Peyton - a Charleston lawyer, banker, business president, government leader, philanthropist and volunteer - has died.

Peyton, 81, died Thursday at his South Hills home.

He helped found the job-creating Business and Industrial Development Corp. and was its unpaid chairman for 23 years, stepping down before BIDCO merged into the Charleston Area Alliance.

He was a driving force behind West Virginia Graduate College - located on Angus Peyton Drive in South Charleston - before it was absorbed into Marshall University. Through the graduate college, he and colleagues launched the Science and Technology Center of Southern West Virginia to spur advanced industrial development.
