The decision taken in 2005 by the GAA to open Croke Park temporarily for international rugby and soccer matches was a landmark in the history of sport on this island. In that year the organisation decided by 227 votes to 97 to have Rule 42 modified temporarily because Lansdowne Road was being redeveloped.
