Colorado Springs and surrounding El Paso County were among the hardest hit areas of Colorado when it comes to foreclosure activity during the first three quarters of this year, with filings and home sales jumping sharply, according to a new report.

From January through September, 3,400 foreclosures were filed in El Paso County, a 32.1 percent increase when compared with 2,573 during the same period in 2007, the Colorado Division of Housing said in a report released Thursday.
