Article: St John's wort gave me relief

I Reply to Shaun Kesterton's letter (Echo, Nov 28) about herbal supplements and depression.

First, I would state St John's Wort should not be used in conjunction with prescribed anti-depressants because that would be what makes it dangerous. But taken on its own it has helped me and I had no trouble whatsoever.

A large body of research shows that St John's Wort is a safe and effective treatment for mild to moderate depression.
