The way jurors were selected and retained was the focus of a
death penalty appeal Wednesday at the Missouri Supreme Court for a
Kirkwood man who shot and killed a police officer.
Kevin Johnson was sentenced to death after he was convicted of
first-degree murder of a Kirkwood police officer in July 2005. The
incident occurred after Johnson's brother died at a hospital after
he suffered a seizure. Johnson blamed local police for his brother's
death and ultimately shot and killed an officer named William
McEntee on that same day.
Johnson was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder for the
crime. And in October 2007, he was sentenced to death. The trial
