Change has been the buzzword in politics and in our society for
the past two years, and, as President-elect Barack Obama brings
change to Washington and the financial meltdown has brought belt-
tightening change to most of our lives, change seems to be
everywhere.
The State Historical Society of Missouri suspended the
microfilming of the state's newspapers because of a serious budget
shortfall, punching a hole in the files of some 3,200 newspapers
that have published in Missouri at some time since 1808. There's
fear that more cuts would even limit the publication of the Missouri
Historical Review, which has an unbroken 100-year history.
