Sen. Robert Byrd left President Barack Obama's inaugural luncheon a little early after his friend and colleague, Sen. Ted Kennedy, suffered a seizure during the event.

Kennedy, D-Mass., apparently suffered a seizure while sitting next to Byrd, according to the West Virginia senator's spokesman, Jesse Jacobs.

Byrd tried to help Kennedy before medical personnel and security arrived at the senator's side, Jacobs said.

Some media outlets quickly reported that both Kennedy and Byrd required medical attention, but that is false, Jacobs said.
