What was once a bust has become a boom.

The economy should be so resilient.

One of the low points of the 2008 movie year was the crash of the independent film scene. Studios were shuttered, "The Dark Knight" reigned and countless art house, indie and foreign films went unseen.

Their imminent return -- at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee Union Theatre, 2200 E. Kenwood Ave. -- is less a "happy days are here again"-type event than Punxsutawney Phil poking his head out of the ground to gauge winter's damage.

This season, UWM is drawing from a long and deep list of all the films that never played here last year.
