The St. Joseph School District maintenance and custodial staff
voted overwhelmingly Tuesday not to join a union.
District workers voted 2-to-1 against having the Educational
Support Professional (ESP) union, an affiliate of the National
Education Association (NEA), represent them at the bargaining table.
Out of 146 school district maintenance and custodial staff, 136
members voted in the election. Ninety-four staff members voted
against the union, while 45 were in favor.
Doug Flowers, director of human resources, said the vote was an
affirmation of the good relationship the district has with its
employees.
