The WPIAL pulled a surprise in announcing the pairings for the 2009 Wrestling Team tournament Thursday by seeding Canon-McMillan ahead of Penn-Trafford, Derry Area, Hempfield and Connellsville in Class AAA.

Bethel Park in the top seed in Class AAA, with Canon-McMillan second, even though Penn-Trafford was the runner-up last season. Canon-McMillan (12-0) has an undefeated record, though.

The WPIAL committee apparently didn't take tournaments into account when seeding teams because Hempfield, Latrobe, Penn- Trafford, Derry, Bethel Park, Burrell, Connellsville, and Albert Gallatin all finished ahead of the Big Macs at the Powerade Tournament.
