Article: San Leandro school board not looking for cash at any cost

SAN LEANDRO -- In these troubled economic times, it seems that money from just about any source would be welcome in the San Leandro school district.

After all, on Thursday the district will hold a special meeting to tell the community how many millions of dollars in state spending it expects to lose now -- and in the 2009-10 fiscal year.

School board President Mike Katz-Lacabe predicted the loss of state funds could be "the most severe we've ever seen," affecting class sizes, music, arts and sports programs.

Three of the seven trustees, however, are distinctly unenthusiastic about suggestions that the district make or save money by selling Burrell Field -- where the San Leandro High School ...
