The position of the jet stream is important to our weather, and
it is always fluctuating. The jet stream pattern has dramatically
shifted over the past few weeks, and as a result, January has been
less stormy, but cold.
December was almost 4 degrees below normal, with an average
temperature of 22.4 degrees. However, December was stormy, with 35.3
inches of snow, 23.6 inches above the monthly average. The cold air
has stuck around for January, with an average temperature so far of
16 degrees, almost 5 degrees below normal. However, we have had only
9.2 inches of snow, 6.4 inches below normal. After snowing 22 of 31
