Kaiti Harris said the words a week earlier, but Yakima Valley's women made the statement in collective and emphatic fashion Saturday.

"Yeah, she was right," Nicole DeRosier answered in reference to her teammate's claim that Sherar Gym belonged completely and unequivocally to the Yaks. "This is our gym. Its our sanctuary. We have to treat it well."

They couldn't have done much more in that regard against defending NWAACC champion Columbia Basin, which last year snapped YVCC's 31-game winning streak at Sherar.

Using DeRosier's white-hot shooting hand to gain an early initiative, the Yaks were never really contested in a surprising 96- 65 rout.
