As a private hire taxi driver, I would like to respond to the article in the Grimsby Telegraph: Lack of ranks is putting taxi jobs at risk.

I would agree with the driver. I think there are too many hackney cars on the road and the council needs to reduce them considerably, so taxi drivers can live and earn a comfortable wage. However, I would like to point out to Mr Anonymous that hackney cars have it a damn sight easier than private hire vehicles. Here are four reasons why:

They have more pick-up points than private hire - they pick up anywhere and can be flagged down. Private hire can only be rung through their office and sent out to a job, or pick up at their offices.
