Irresponsible use of a whistle-blowing phone line has placed
Community, the steel industry's main trade union, in a difficult
position.
But Scunthorpe's 4,500 Corus employees have been exonerated from
any blame.
The blow-the-whistle confidential service was established in 2004
by the Indian-owned steelmaker in partnership with an independent
operator.
Last year the phone line received 14 calls from Corus UK
employees, but none came from Scunthorpe.
A Community spokesman said the whistle-blowing line had been used
by people wanting to raise concerns about the misuse of drugs and
alcohol,
